Transitioning from a Registered Nurse to a Certified Nutrition Specialist has been a transformative journey for me. In 2013, when I first became a nurse, I felt a strong desire to expand my impact in healthcare. Even before completing nursing school, I sensed a deeper calling awaiting me. It was during a community health class that I came across a book that significantly influenced my career path - "Living Downstream" by Sandra Steingraber. This enlightening read emphasized the intricate connection between environmental toxins and health conditions such as cancer, sparking a newfound passion in me. My interest in environmental science and sustainability had been growing since my earlier days, even before pursuing nursing. Engaging with a local environmental group in Portland, Maine, I actively participated in initiatives advocating for green spaces and opposing harmful practices like pesticide use. As I approached the end of nursing school, I focused on the intersection of environmental health and reproduction, merging my interests in women's health and environmental medicine. My senior capstone project and clinical rotation on a labor and delivery floor solidified my emphasis on this significant connection. After graduating and preparing for my NCLEX exam, I delved into the realm of nutrition while working at a local food co-op. I realized the crucial role nutrition plays in disease prevention and well-being, prompting me to seek a more holistic approach. Almost immedeately after entering my nursing career began to pursue my nutrition education.  Enrolling in the Master in Clinical Nutrition + Integrative Health program at Maryland University of Integrative Health provided me with comprehensive knowledge and skills aligned with my wellness beliefs. In 2018 I graduated and obtained my BCNS certification. Embarking on a new chapter, I began working with individual clients, concentrating on general weight loss and overall well-being, blending my nursing background with my newfound expertise in nutrition. I've spent the last 7 years continuing my work in nursing while growing my nutrition business and focusing on womens health, hormones, fertility and preconception planning.
